Your food log and nutrition data are personal. This page explains what Caloryn stores and why, in clear and simple terms.

What data does Caloryn store?

Caloryn stores the information it needs to help you log food and track your daily targets:

• Profile and goal information — Age, sex, height, weight, activity level, calorie target, and macro settings. Caloryn uses this to calculate and display your daily calorie and macro goals. No account is required.
• Food log entries — The foods you log, meal categories, dates, and portion sizes. This powers your daily tracking, history, and summaries.
• Food data you add or save — Custom foods, nutrition values, barcode-linked products, and related details such as Nutri-Score when available from Open Food Facts.
• Optional Apple Health activity data — If you choose to connect Apple Health, Caloryn asks for read-only access to activity energy burned, such as workout calories, from the Health app. Caloryn uses this only to calculate an activity calorie offset for your daily target.
• App preferences — Settings such as appearance, whether to show Nutri-Score, and whether iCloud sync is enabled.

Where is my data stored?

Your profile, goals, food log, saved foods, and app preferences are stored on your device first. If iCloud sync is enabled in Settings, this app data may also sync across your devices through your personal iCloud account. We do not operate Apple's iCloud service and do not have access to the content stored in your personal iCloud account. Apple Health activity data read by Caloryn is not included in Caloryn's iCloud sync. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time and keep this app data local only.

How does Apple Health integration work?

Apple Health integration is optional. If you grant permission, Caloryn reads activity energy burned from the Health app so your remaining calories can reflect activity you have already done. For example, if Apple Health reports 300 calories burned from activity, Caloryn may add that amount to your remaining daily calorie budget. Caloryn does not write data to Apple Health, does not use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, and does not share Apple Health data with third parties.

How do food searches and barcode lookups work?

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, Caloryn sends the search text or barcode to a product lookup service operated by us and hosted on Vercel. The service queries a product database hosted by Turso and returns matching product details, such as nutrition information and, when available, Nutri-Score. These requests are not sent directly to Open Food Facts.

The search text or barcode is processed by Vercel and Turso only as needed to perform the lookup and return a response. Vercel may also process limited technical information needed to receive, secure, and deliver the request, such as an IP address and basic request metadata. We use lookup information only to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service, not for advertising or user profiling. Caloryn does not send your profile or food log to the lookup service.

Which service providers support product lookup?

We use Vercel to run and deliver the lookup service and Turso to host the product database. These providers process information on our behalf as needed to provide their infrastructure services. You can learn more in Vercel's Privacy Notice and Turso's Privacy Policy.

Where does the product information come from?

The product information returned by Caloryn is sourced from Open Food Facts, a community-maintained open database. Caloryn stores a copy of the dataset in its Turso database to provide product lookup; Open Food Facts does not operate or endorse Caloryn. Open Food Facts data is made available under the Open Database License.

Do you sell or share my data?

We do not sell your personal information, run third-party advertising, or use third-party analytics. Limited lookup and technical information is processed by Vercel and Turso as described above, solely as needed to provide and protect the product lookup service.

Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export your food log as a CSV file from within the app and keep a copy for your own records.

Children’s privacy

Caloryn is not intended for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the revised version here. Your continued use of the app means you accept the updated terms.

Use of the app

Caloryn is a tool for logging food and tracking calories and macros. It is not a substitute for professional medical, nutrition, or dietary advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for health-related decisions.

Accuracy of data

Nutrition data may come from our hosted copy of the community-maintained Open Food Facts database or from foods added by users. The hosted dataset may not always reflect the latest changes made to Open Food Facts. While we aim for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all information is complete, correct, or current. Check product packaging when accuracy is important. Apple Health activity values and Caloryn's activity calorie offsets are also estimates. Use the app as a general guide rather than a definitive source.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the information you enter and for how you use the app. Please keep your device secure to help protect your data.

Availability

We aim to keep Caloryn available and functioning properly, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free operation. The app may be updated, changed, or discontinued from time to time.
